As Australia’s largest data driven research group, CSIRO’s Data61 is dedicated to creating Australia’s data-driven future. They are collaborating extensively with government and companies across Australia and internationally, to develop tools and technologies to generate new insight from data and make it more accessible. Leading Data61’s Government and Business engagement team, Cheryl is driving a number for ground-breaking projects to bring together government data and support agencies in opening up data for more valuable use as well as supporting collaboration and education initiatives to improve data literacy across government departments. In this session Cheryl will discuss the common challenges and opportunities for Governments in making best use of their data resources, as well as providing some examples of valuable applications of data in government.

  • Highlighting some practical examples of data, the challenges and opportunities it presents, as well as the work that Data61 is doing to improve Australia’s data
  • Driving data literacy and understanding through an organsiation, starting with the leadership team
  • Creating training and education programs to help staff understand the importance of data and ultimately improve data quality throughout the organisation
